Wildflowers of Central Texas
Texas roadside wildflowers between Manor and Elgin - April 2015
On a couple of cloudy and drizzly days along a small stretch of US Highway 290 between Elgin and Manor, I photographed a sample of the variety of wildflowers found blooming in early April of 2015. I have identified most of them with the help of the Wildflower Index by Gary Regner Photography. If you can help identify any that I have not yet labeled or have mislabeled, I would be most appreciative!

Some can be almost all white. The small blue one shown here is of the original species designated as the Texas State Flower in 1901, Sandyland Bluebonnet (Lupinus subcarnosus). The Sandyland species has rounded leaf tips, while the Texas Bluebonnet has more pointed leaf tips. These shown here are perhaps stunted by growing in poor soil on the edge of the highway pavement with highway oil runoff.
